A new formulation of a widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), ibuprofen tablets, has been launched in the US by Ranbaxy Laboratories, Inc. in March.
The tablet is being developed by Ranbaxy, which is in the process of manufacturing a similar drug for the UK market.
"This new formulation provides significant improvement over the existing formulations," said Dr. Shukrun Dharakumar, senior vice-president, Ranbaxy.
"We believe this new formulation will make it easier to administer to patients and will also provide faster onset of action," said Gaurav Gupta, managing director, Ranbaxy, India.
The drug, which is available from Ranbaxy Laboratories, is marketed under the brand name Ibuprofen, which is indicated in the treatment of pain and inflammation, for the treatment of various forms of arthritis, as well as for managing chronic pain and fever.
The new formulation is designed for immediate relief of symptoms, including headaches, toothaches, menstrual cramps, arthritis pain and fever.
The tablet is composed of 200 mg of ibuprofen and is given once a day.
Ranbaxy, in partnership with a subsidiary of Pfizer Inc., has been developing an innovative formulation of ibuprofen that is indicated for the treatment of pain and inflammation in the management of various forms of arthritis, as well as for the treatment of chronic pain and fever.
